This report, conducted by ALM Legal Intelligence in association with
Corporate Counsel magazine, offers a broad overview of what general
counsel and chief compliance officers of major U.S. corporations perceive to
be the risks their companies face, and the steps they are taking to comply
with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
The survey was conducted online between May 17 and June 15, 2012. A
total of 8,871 surveys were sent out to general counsel and deputy general
counsel in the United States across a variety of industries and company
sizes. Sixty responses were received. The majority of respondents (75
percent) held general counsel, deputy general counsel, or chief legal officer
titles in their respective corporations. Twelve percent of respondents were
chief compliance officers. The remainder held a variety of titles, including
those of commercial director and senior contract manager.
Of the companies that respondents represented, 49 percent had annual
revenues in excess of $1 billion, including 18 percent with revenues
exceeding $10 billion. Companies with revenues of $100 million or less made
up 25 percent of the respondents.
